In a IDW comic storyline Spotlight a one shot issue it is uncovered that Arcee was a part of Jhiaxus's science experiments to introduce the gender of female into the Cybertronian Transformer species. Jhiaxus altered his first test subject Arcee with CNA which lead to her creation. Jhiaxus felt Arcee was a disappointment and did not measure up to his ideology and she as a project and experiment was cancelled. This version of Arcee is a departure from the G1 classic Arcee that we are used to. This incarnation is more ruthless, a violent killer, a bit crazy but all that said she is bad ass. Fortress Maximus and the Autobot powers that be are left with very little choice but to arrest her and lock her up at Garrus 9 for some of her actions under Jhiaxus control. After much
thought Fortress Maximus with heavy heart reluctantly set Arcee free to assist Jetfire and his squad to dispose of the Monstructor components. Arcee is powered up with super status speed and artillery and squares off against the combaticons and surprisingly did a lot damage and held her own to a basic draw. She failed to stop the combaticons from absconding with the Monstructor Components which was tactically teleported away.
The Autobots leadership gives Arcee a Level-9 threat classification. She was the sole Autobot of the power level during the prison assault. Fortress Maximus and Jetfire deduced that there was a bond between Arcee and the Monstructor transformers who were all constructed via Jhiaxus himself. This is one of the leading factors that lead Fortress Maximus and Jetfire to set Arcee free to hunt down the Monstructor Transformers. In the "Revelations" story arc, Arcee is seeking vengeance and works to track down Jhiaxus to kill him. Her work pays off She end up finding Jhiaxus and ultimately killing him. She learns from Headhead that Jhiaxus is virtually immortal and will always come back to life because he is connected to the dead universe (long story see Gen two comics, 1990s). Arcee does not seem to mind this discovery; the way she sees it this give her the pleasure of killing Hjiaxus repeatedly indefinitely.
In the pages of 'Heart of Darkness" we find out that Arcess along with Headhead set up shop on Garrus Prime to safeguard the wormhole that leads to the Dead Universe where they destroy Hjiaxus repeatedly. The D-Void ordered the citizenship of Garrus Prime into the portal so that the wormhole can consume the population and replenish its self. Hardhead was exposed to the radiation of the Dead Universe in the pages of Revelations so he had immunity to the portal. Arcee was not immune to the effects of the wormhole; Headhead was able to grab on to her until the wormhole shut. Arcee and Head remain there investigating the remains of the Garrus Prime civilization after the closing of the wormhole portal.
Arcee and Headhead werent out of the woods yet Galvatron and the sweeps showed up to study the anomalies of Garrus Prime. Arcee and Hardhead got the jump on the decpticons and mortally wounded Galvatron however the tides turned when Galvatron harnessed the Heart of Darkness to completely heal himself back to form. Being overwhelmed by Decepticon forces Hardhead orders Arcee to leave him and go get autobot back up. Arcee with the sweep in hot pursuit of her is making her way across a bridge when Cyclonus pulverizes the bridge sending her into a deadly free fall. it assumed that she is destroyed but then we see her clawing her way out of the chasm
Sometime Later in the IDW story arc, Arcee meets up with Prowl and becomes his personal assassin. Her mission is to assassinate Ratbat (not in tape form) to avoid a planet-wide war on Cybertron in these post-war times. After Arcee kills Ratbat Prowl employees her services to assassinate many more high profile Decepticons. the decpticons seemed to have been a few moves ahead of Prowl brcause many of the death were staged as part of a vast conspiracy to drum up decepticon hatred against the governing Autobot ruling body. We find out that shortly after Prowl had ordered Ratbats death that Bombshell of the insecticons had him under mind control. As a result Prowl is forced to become apart of a new version of Devastator fully under the insecticons control. During this time Arcee seem to be in league with the decepticons however this new Devastator threaten cybertron she is forced to kill Bombshell therefore breaking the mind control upon Prowl and freeing him from Devastator and allowing the Aerialbots to merged into Superion to overwhelm Devastator. After the Autobot victory over the decepticon forces; Starscream appeals to the independents cybertronians who weren't autobot nor decpticon. Starscream and his following then kicks out the autobots and decepticons from his territory. Arcee officially becomes an autobot and excepts the Autobot symbol.
