The Micheal Bay Transformers Bumblebee movie was decent

Updated: Aug 11, 2021

this blog post will contain certain spoilers regarding the latest Michael Bay Transformers movie Bumblebee. if you haven't viewed the movie yet and want to stay clear if spoilers; i would recommend watching the movie before reading any further. The movie contained a few strong points and numerous weak sections. Of course, at the top of that short list of strong points is the Cybertron scene depicting Optimus Prime battling Soundwave and the tapes; most noticeably Ravage. there is a memorable part of the same scene featuring Shockwave and the Seekers. i could only make out three Seekers for sure Starscream, Acidstorm and Skywarp. it turns out contrary to popular belief Starscream was in the movie just not where we thought he would be. myself included we all got Blitzwing and starscream confused. I'm going to go as far to say that the Cybertronian flashback was the best scene in Michael Bay's tenure. i am stating this based mostly on the optics of the scene it was very G1 accurate. i hope future Transformer movies start to skew in this direction. Although its simply a short flashback memory lasting a few seconds Bumblebee is worth watching based solely on this scene alone. the movie had adequate villains Shatter and Dropkick mistaken these are new transformers specific to this movie. The fact that these decepticons were triple changers is a very interesting aspect. right from the start the triple changer Blitzwing briefly showed up to rip out bumblebee's voice box. in my opinion they shouldn't have presented him in Starscream's likeness and colors. Blitzwing should have been presented more accurately by the writers. The scene would have gotten a stronger response with Blitzwing's purple and tan G1 paint job. outside of Lockdown triple changers are a new concept in the Michael bey transformers universe. the leading antagonist for the movie was Shatter (voiced by Angela Basset) a female decepticon triple changer; she's no Megatron but she held her own. you felt yourself wanting to tell this under powered bumblebee to stay clear of Shatter. while on the subject of female transformers; maybe its just me but i think they dropped the ball with Arcee in past movies. If you are going to introduce a fem-bot female transformer give Arcee a story arc. On matters of the toyline for the bumblebee movie Michael Bay movie transformers are difficult enough to transform; i cringe to think about transforming a Movie inspired Transformer triple changer.

another strong part of the movie was the role played by John Cena. im going to be transparent im a huge WWE professional wrestling fan so maybe im bias. im sure other blogs are ripping John Cena apart for his performance in the movie. he was perfect for this part. until we can get a GI-Joe crossover we have to settle for just the regular military. but there's is a rumor in circulation that Cena represents the original GI-Joe in this transformers prequel movie. Cena was ideal for the part he needed only to tweak his character in the his past movie the marine. his character is a quasi antagonist in the movie but slowly throughout the film there's a certain redemption arch.

Let us explore the weakest parts of the film. For me and probably most die hard transformers fans this will be represented by the human aspect of this movie. i felt this movie had too large of a human presence to it, just not enough actual transformers for me. it felt like a movie about humans with a transformer in it rather than a full fledged transformers movie. there was way too much story wasted on the teenage companion Charlie Watson (Hailee Steinfeld) and her sidekick Memo. nothing against her acting she played the part of the cliché brooding teenager very well. last time i checked this was not a Dawsons Creek movie. that being said; bumblebee himself was probably the weakest part of the movie. he was very underwhelming in this roll. in most of the movie he had the personality of a cute puppy-dog and the intellectual capacity to match. he seemed to play second fettle to his supposed human companions. although far from being one of the high powered toughest transformers; i dont recall bumblebee being such a wuss. dont get me wrong bumbebee did exhibit some heroics but they were few and far between. the absolute weakest part of the film was they left bee home alone and he totally trashed the house and acted like an untrained dog upon Charlie's return (back to the dog analogy again). overall this bumblebee was carried by his villains and his companions. the plot of the movie i would say is a strong point. the whole plot takes place in the 1980s which was the G1 era and a very successful period for the transformers franchise. so my overall prognosis for this transformers film is very mixed. So is Transformers Bumblebee worth watching? im going to say a hesitant yes
