Supergirl is on its third season on the CW and is really picking up steam. Adding the Legion of Superheroes to help Kara battle the World Killers is epic and some of the best stuff on TV period. I really like the story arch involving the Kryptonian construct Reign (Odette Annable). She is simular to Doomsday in the comic books; of course the show puts their own unique twist on it and she is a little bit different in the Arrowverse. She looks human on the show and when i say she looks human I mean she is really smoking hot. In the comics Reign does not look human; she is humanoid but not human. In fact doomsday like Reign is a World Killer created on krypton by Zod and the military guild. Reign is pretty complex and whether or not she is good or evil it is kind of a grey area. Reign is a being programmed for vengeance. The Vengeance she serves out is own style of brutal Justice. The military Guild designed her to serve out brutal blind justice as a world killer. To eradicate any enemy of Kryptonian Society. Her ideology on justice and serving punishment conflicts with Kara's ideology. Supergirl only getting physical when it is absolutely necessary. Like Superman, Supergirl does not kill. Reign has no issue with taking life for the sake of Justice or vengeance. A good comparison to give you an idea of who Reign is; think in terms of Ghost Rider the Spirit of Vengeance. eign is pretty complex and whether or not she is good or evil it is kind of a grey area. Supergirl is on its third season on the CW and is really picking up steam. Adding the Legion of Superheroes to help Kara battle the World Killers is epic and some of the best stuff on TV period. I really like the story arch involving the Kryptonian construct Reign (Odette Annable). She is similar to Doomsday in the comic books; of course the show puts their own unique twist on it and she is a little bit different in the Arrowverse. She looks human on the show and when i say she looks human I mean she is really smoking hot. In the comics Reign does not look human; she is humanoid but not human. Making matters more complicated, Reign has an alter ego who is Samantha Arias. You can not help but cheer for Samantha. She is a kind-hearted hard working single mother. She is really close friends with Alex Danvers, Lena Luther and Kara. In fact Sam works for Lena Luther at L-Corp. Sam is not conscious of Reign's existence. Reign seems to be fully aware of Sam however. When Sam converts into Reign; she sums it up to memory loss. Sam does realize that she has powers but I do not think she realizes the full extent. Sam is jus trying to figure out what happening to her. She just wants a normally life with her daughter Rudy Arias (Emma Tremblay). Rudy is noticing some inconsistencies in her mom's behavior. Rudy has suspected for quite awhile that her mom has powers. But Rudy is equating these powers with her mom being a hero in the same light as Supergirl. Rudy would be mortified if she knew her mother was a cold hearted World Killer. At present Rudy just suspects her mother has powers but not completely sure. She is more concerned about her mother's mental health and memory loss at present.
I think they did a good job in writing the fight between Supergirl and Reign. It was reminiscent of Supernan #75 The Death of Superman when the Man of Steel fell to Doomsday. It also had elements of the fight between the Christopher Reeves's Superman fighting the Terrance Stamp Zod in the city skylights. Reign vanquished Supergirl beating her into a coma. The coma served as a great segway for the Legion of Superheroes to come in and try to save Supergirl most notably Brainiac 5. Brainiac 5 is the friendly version of Brainiac. They gave us a good orgins of Brainiac 5 story on Smallville. The Legion of Superheroes episode on Smallville created Brainiac 5 after Clark defeated the evil Brainiac. Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl of the Legion took the advanced Kryptonian mangled circuitry of Brainiac to the 31st century and reprogrammed him to Brainiac 5. When Kara was in her coma they placed her aboard the Legionaire's spaceship to monitor her progress. Brainiac 5 was able to project himself into Kara consciousness. Kara was stuck in a Matrix like prison built by her own mind. It was in the form of her apartment but she could not open her door and wake up. Ultimately she found keys and woke up, thanks to Brainiac5. I am not certain if they are going to do this on the show but in the comic books Supergirl dates Brainiac 5. We may see that, who knows it would be interesting. It would be complex love triangles. Mon-el and his wife Saturn Girl, they seem to be trying to start Supergirl and Mon-el back up again. If you throw Brainiac5 in the middle of this things get a bit convoluted.
To be perfectly honest i am not crazy about Kara dating Mon-el. I could go without the heart broken moopy Supergirl as well. I perfer Saturn Girl and Mon-el, it seems more natural. And while we are on the subject; nothing against Maggie Sawyer the character or the actress but I just did not enjoy the story plot of her and Alex Danvers. I found it just too mushy and we already had a big relationship plot going on with Supergirl and Mon-El. I just think it took away from a lot of the action and made it feel like "One Life To Live" the soap opera at times. I prefer Alex Danver with Sarah Lance from from the CW Arrowverse show Legends of Tomorrow. I suppose i am not the only one who did not care for that relationship because they closed it down pretty quickly. The relationship ending was written well Alex and Maggie had to end their courtship because Alex wanted kids and Maggie Sawyer did not. That is a very good real life reason to end a relationship. Ultimately I think that Alex Danvers will get her wishes. She will get a kid because the writers will want Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes to have victory over the Reign and World Killers. Reign is so powerful that Supergirl is either going to have to send her away to Fort Roz or the Phantom Zone. They might put her in a prison in 31st century. Supergirl may have to destory Reign all together. I hope its not for a very long time because i really like the character Reign. Either way Sam's daughter Rudy will be orphaned. I can see Rudy living with Alex and Kara. Since Rudy is part Kryptonian the Danver household is the best place for her. Alex has already baby sat Rudy for Sam. If Alex got back with Maggie she would have to conceal Rudy's and Kara's Kryptonian identities from her and that would not a right for anyone. I am looking forward to seeing how these storylines play out. We will see a huge Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes battle Reign and the World Killers. This is building to be an phenomenal season.
